Our True Love Journey

Tik and Manu a love that became a road

Some love stories are written only in words. Ours was written in childhood lanes, bus journeys, shared birthdays, Saudi skies, mountain roads, Dolma, Ladakh winds, and the quiet courage Manu placed inside me.

This is not only the story of how we met. It is the story of how she taught me to move, to travel, to believe, to live today, and to carry love even after the visible journey changed.

A love with old roots

Before we became “us”, life had already crossed our paths.

Both of us were born on the same day — 30 March 1976.

March was not only the month of our birth. It became, again and again, a month of beginning. We were born on the same date, in the same year, and many years later life brought us back to each other after its own long journey. Childhood had given us a thread. Time had hidden it. Love found it again.

The name only she gave

To the world, I am Trilok. To Manu, I was Tik. And that one small name carried a whole world — her voice, her teasing, her love, her nearness, and the private language that belonged only to us.

Childhood did not know the future, but it had already placed us near each other.
Childhood connection

Nahan knew us before we knew our story.

Our lives first crossed in childhood, when the world was smaller and the lanes of Nahan carried more innocence than we understood. Our families were connected through the police department. We were children then, unaware that life sometimes hides its deepest meanings inside ordinary neighbourhoods.

There were guavas, colony children, Sweet the Pomeranian, and small childhood mischiefs that later returned as laughter. Manu carried those memories not like old dust, but like bright seeds. Years later, when she would say, “Trilok, tu bach gaya,” the past would suddenly become alive again.

Some stories begin long before love knows its own name.

Camping near Udaipur · Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh

We were not only travelling. We were discovering each other.

Some of our most meaningful journeys were not about reaching a famous destination. They were about leaving the familiar behind, entering the mountains together, and finding a quieter space where we could simply be ourselves. During one such journey near Udaipur in Lahaul, we camped among tall deodar trees, rocky ground and the deep silence of the valley.

Setting up the tent, walking beside green mountain roads, stopping wherever the landscape called us, and sharing the small difficulties of outdoor travel brought us closer in a natural way. We were learning how the other person responded to uncertainty, tiredness, beauty and simple happiness. The mountains were around us, but the real journey was happening between us.

We went into the mountains to see the world, and found more of each other there.

Four things she gave this love

Manu did not only walk with me. She changed how I walked through life.

She brought tenderness, courage, movement and colour. She did not ask love to remain still. With her, love had wheels, roads, laughter, food, plans, festivals, animals, mountains and sudden decisions.

01

She gave courage

She helped me cross fears I had quietly accepted as part of myself.

02

She gave movement

From bus journeys to mountain roads, she made life expand in directions I had not imagined.

03

She gave colour

With Manu, ordinary days were never only ordinary. They carried food, laughter, festivals and warmth.

04

She gave today

She believed life should not always be postponed. Her sentence still remains: “Life is in today.”

Activa and the first freedom

She taught me to ride, then taught me to move forward.

When we met again, I did not ride a scooter, a motorcycle or a car. Our early journeys were by bus. But Manu was never someone who allowed fear to become a permanent wall.

She encouraged me to ride. We bought a Honda Activa, and the roads around Solan began to feel different. They were no longer just roads we watched from bus windows. They became roads we could take ourselves.

She did not only teach me balance on two wheels. She taught me balance inside life.

Saudi Arabia

A life in another country, but the same fearless Manu.

Saudi Arabia was not only a place where we lived. It was a chapter of courage, work, friendship, discipline and new relationships. Manu stepped into that life with confidence. She taught, coordinated, supported students and made people remember her.

There were friends, colleagues, Captain Fahid, university days, drives, conversations, and a world that became familiar because she had the courage to meet it fully.

Wherever she went, she did not become less herself. She made the place remember her.

Coming back during COVID

The world had changed, but we were still together.

COVID changed the world in ways no one had imagined. Plans broke, borders became uncertain, and returning home carried its own emotion. There is a picture of us sitting in the aircraft, coming back during that time.

That image belongs to a strange chapter — a time of worry, return, gratitude and silence. It carries the feeling of leaving one life behind and stepping back toward another, not knowing what the future would hold.

Some journeys do not feel like travel. They feel like crossing from one life into another.

Dolma and March 2024

Same birthday. Same year of a dream. Dolma came into our life.

We were both born on 30 March 1976. March always carried something personal for us. In 2024, the same year she would leave her physical form, we brought Jimny into our life and named her Dolma.

It began with Manu’s sudden spark in Solan market: “Yaar Trilok, let us go to Nexa and see the Jimny.” That was her way. A thought became a possibility, and possibility became action.

Dolma was never only a vehicle. She was Manu’s belief that life should be lived today, that roads should not remain only in planning, and that dreams need wheels before fear can stop them.

She did not buy a car. She opened another road inside our life.

Leh Ladakh · June 2024

The mountains saw us before everything changed.

In June 2024, we made the journey to Leh Ladakh. It was the same year Dolma came into our life, the same year that would later become the hardest year of all. But in June, the roads were still open before us.

Ladakh and Zanskar have their own silence. The mountains do not speak loudly, but they keep everything. They kept our laughter, our stops, our photographs, our tiredness, our wonder, the people we met on the way, and the feeling of being together on roads that seem close to the sky.

Before grief changed the shape of the world, Ladakh gave us one more sky together.

Karwa Chauth 2024 — the last picture together.
Karwa Chauth 2024

The last picture together became a forever photograph.

There is a last picture of us together from Karwa Chauth 2024. At that time, it was simply a photograph, one more moment held in a phone, one more festival memory, one more expression of togetherness.

Only later does the heart understand what a last picture means. It becomes more than an image. It becomes a doorway. You look at it and time stands still. You see the face, the hands, the clothes, the moment — and behind all of it, the life that was still present there.

Some photographs do not fade. They become the place where love goes to sit quietly.

10 November 2024

She left her physical form, but not the life she gave.

On the morning of 10 November 2024, Manu left this physical world. But a person like her does not become absent in a simple way. She remains in actions, in roads, in words, in photographs, in courage, in animals cared for, in students remembered, in promises kept, and in the person she helped Trilok become.

This page is not made to end with loss. It is made to carry the journey forward with truth. The love did not become less real because the visible companionship changed. The road changed. The presence changed. But what she placed inside the life of Trilok still moves, still speaks, still travels.

I do not carry only her memory. I carry the life she placed inside mine.

Our journey continues

Love did not stop. It changed its form.

It continues in Dolma, in every road still taken, in every photograph preserved, in every memory written, in every animal cared for, in every poem saved, and in the courage Manu left behind.

Always yours Tik
